December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month

Download Your Toolkit Today from the National Center for DWI Courts (NCDC).

We know that DWI courts work, and National Impaired Driving Prevention Month in December is an important opportunity to make sure our fellow citizens, leaders, and elected officials know that, too.

Throughout the month of December, we want to introduce our communities to saved lives, reunited families, and safer streets. We want them to see what it looks like when the justice system works hand-in-hand with treatment providers to ensure people struggling with addiction receive support, compassion, and evidence-based care.

This National Impaired Driving Prevention Month toolkit contains a wealth of resources to help you plan and execute events as well as educate your elected officials and the media. For many people in recovery, the holidays can be an especially difficult time; for this reason, we’ve also included tips on ensuring your court staff are prepared to give participants the support they need.

In this kit, you’ll find:

  • Creative event ideas to educate your community and foster support for your DWI court
  • Instructions on how to contact your local and regional media outlets
  • A sample press release and newspaper opinion editorial
  • A sample invitation for Members of Congress
  • Sample social media content to help spread your message, enhance your events, and foster community support for your court
  • Guidance on how to prepare and support your court participants through the holiday season, one of the biggest challenges to sobriety throughout the year

We look forward to highlighting the news and photos you send us all month long on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Remember, whenever one person rises out of addiction, we All Rise. Thank you for the work you’re doing every single day to make our communities safer.
